However, by 1996 she decided to try her hand at writing and was soon doing that full-time instead of her other career. She went to the University of Illinois and ended up working as an engineer for a number of years. While she always enjoyed writing from a young age, it wasn’t her vocation at first. She actually still attends the church that she attended during her childhood. Her father was a pastor and her faith has stayed with her throughout her life. She started to take writing more seriously in her teenage years, but didn’t feel like she had something that was worthy of showing to publishers until she was in her thirties.

The love of reading and stories really struck her from a young age. As a child, the best way that teachers could find to punish her was by taking her books away. Writing came to Henderson at a young age as she was always writing stories as a young girl.
